Hi, we are currently waiting for my daughter's assessment at the end of November for reception entry. Could anybody please share their experience with Notting Hill and Ealing School reception assessment? We are very nervous as although our daughter is very vocal, can count very well and recognise alphabet letters etc she sometimes get nervous going into new places without us. We know how bright she is and this would be the perfect school for her but any advice or tips are more than welcome PLEASE!!

Thank You

Hi AA16. Hope your daughters assessment went well. I noticed you did not receive a reply on this thread but getting in touch as we are aiming to sit the assessment this year. Would love to hear about your daughters experience. Thank you.

@Av09 hello! We are applying last minute for a place and have an assessment coming up! May I ask if you wound up choosing NEH? V keen to know more about the school as it is generally overlooked. We are in Chiswick w4 and keen to know more!! Any advice?

Hi @achiswickmum. We are looking at 2024 for our daughter. From the research we have done, we’ve been very impressed with the school and it’s on top of our list. Highly impressive academic results, good facilities and pastoral care. However they are selective (even at 4+ at which point our daughter will enter), so also looking at other options in the area. If I may ask - which chiswick schools have you shortlisted.

Hi @Av09 my daughter is at St Augustines. We unfortunately did not get a place at Notting hill. This year they had a high sibling entry (we know a lot of siblings who got in) which is understandable but it was disheartening as my daughter is super bright and advanced for her age. However, St Augustines is a great school and we look forward to see my daughter grow here. I wish you all the luck for your daughters assessment.

Hi AA16. Any assessment at 4+ is going to be flawed and sometimes nature has a way of making the best decision. We are looking into St Augustine’s as well, and also debating starting pre-school this September. We have been highly encouraged by our interactions with the teachers and staff. I am sure your daughter will do very well given how bright she is. If I can ask : did you look into other local schools as well. St Benedict’s and Durston House? Those are on our shortlist as well.

I do love the grounds at St Augustines and I love how they have a small farm / outdoor area with animals as my daughter is a huge fan. We are going to consider St Benedicts / Durston house for my son. We wanted a girls school for my daughter but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a local boys school in Ealing so we will chose between St Benedicts & Durston. Durston is joining Harvington and will be co-ed (I think that process has already started).

@AA16 Do you think you'll try again at 11+?

All, we love the school and recently got the 4+ assessment results, for my daughter - she is on a waitlist. Which they have not given any specifics about. My wife and I are getting quite anxious as this is our top pick and we wish to relocate to this area but can't make that decision until we know more.

School has not clarified where she is on the waitlist nor have they said how likely there will be a positive outcome. Anyone who is already attending and who knows a little more about the process, kindly help. Much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi @SJCW my daughter got offered an occasional place at Nhehs and is now attending. We had applied for an occasional place for year one but got given the opportunity for reception entry. Waitlist normally means they will see how many accept their initial offers and if there are spaces they will offer children on the waitlist an offer. As not everyone on the initial offer list may accept (they might go elsewhere / circumstances change etc) you are probably in a good position as they may offer you position if not all offers are taken up rather than someone who has applied for an occasional place. However, a lot of people may pay the deposit for numerous schools and then decide last minute which one they would like. (Which I think is unfair) This means your daughter may start school elsewhere and you may get a phone call offering her a place after she has started school elsewhere. Also I'm not sure if they reassess children on the waitlist or if they are offered a direct place as my daughter was reassessed. I hope this helps and I hope everything works out in your favour. Best of luck!
