Dd in Y6 is taking the PMC for the first time this week. She's done a few past papers and found them quite challenging going especially the last few questions.

When do you normally get the results? Also wondering what the cutoff score for Bonus Round might be? Is it different each year?

results next few days (before end of month) and you'll know if you qualified for bonus round. You will take bonus round at the end of Jan.

If I remember correctly, then the first 20 questions are fine if you are good at maths, then the last five are very difficult. Work fast to gain points on the first 20. Then quickly review the last 5 and just start on the one that you think is the "easiest" one. Too many kids get bogged down on #21 when they could have answered #24 and #25.

Thank you both. She took it and managed to finish it but haven't heard back from school yet. I would be interested to know how others found it this year. Heard it might have been a little easier this year?

The cutoff for bonus round is usually between 18-20 depending on how many score highly. My DS scored 19 last year and got through to the bonus round where he scored 22 and got a gold pin. He found the bonus round easier than the first round as (I think) whilst the questions got progressively harder, they were all multiple choice in the bonus round.

Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers · 20/11/2022 18:49

Actually that might have been the other way round - 22 in the first round and 19 in the bonus round...I can't remember and they seem to have taken the result down from the website!

sendmewine · 22/11/2022 07:38

Amazing results @Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers !
We're waiting for our DD's... do you know when they'll hear about the bonus round?

Bonus round is usually given on the first Wednesday in February, so I'd expect 01 February 2023. They usually publish the qualifying score for the bonus round in early December.

The qualifying score for the bonus round was 20 last year. The cutoff for a gold pin was 21. I don't know how to square that with Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers's DS's results.

Ah yes you're right I've just checked with him and he got 22 in both rounds last year. It was the year before he got 19.

Have you heard anything of the bonus round boundaries? Cheers

sendmewine · 20/02/2023 13:14

@twinsyang hi, yes it was 20 or over to get into the bonus round and Dd took it just before half term.

Wonder when results for bonus round might be published?

My DD got 22 in the first round and 19 in the bonus round. Wondered what she is going to get for 19...Bear

@twinsyang ah I see, well done to your Dd! Last year it was apparently 21 and over for gold, so 19 would have been a silver but hope we'll hear the boundaries for this year soon.

Please keep us posted if anyone gets their lapel badges and certificates... does anyone know when these get sent to schools? Their website says March but no date.

My dd2 got her certificate back in November! No lapel badge though 😕

sendmewine · 05/03/2023 20:55

@Meredusoleil that's ok! Well done to your Dd! I think it's such a lovely idea for schools to let children do something other than the national curriculum. Biscuit
