Hi everyone. My daughter has her first round assessment on Tuesday. She is going to find it extremely hard to separate from me, not sure she will make it through the door! If anyone has any reasonably recent experience (last few years) of the assessment I would be hugely grateful if you could share it as anything I can explain to her in advance will help her feel more comfortable going in?

Hiya. My little one was there on Tuesday at 1.30. She has told me nothing about it at all! I hope your little one was okay in the end? When do we hear?

Talk to her about it. Make her familiar with the flow of the day. Takes away anxiety.
’Next week we are going to a play date at a big girls school. You will play and talk with teachers and kids there and AFTER THAT we will [ insert some coveted activity you rarely do and she loves ]
With DD1 It was going to Hamleys after the first ‘play date at big girl school’….

Make sure she wears something she likes and is comfortable with. Don’t worry about it being proper, or formal.

I hope your assessment went well.. We had ours last week.. I'm not hopeful from the "drawing" that our DD came out with!! Do we know when the results are out?

Rainbow17 · 14/11/2022 13:11

I just came on to ask exactly the same thing. DD had her assessment last week and I think the last ones were on Friday so I'm assuming we should find out soonish...

Bigbun · 14/11/2022 13:42

That made me laugh out loud. My DD is a great artist, and i really mean it. She sits and does water colour works that are of a level of 10 years, its just her skill. She came out of her assessment with her drawing which was a page of scribbles and i was flabbergasted.... she said 'isn't it beautiful Mama, its a round and round rainbow".... its like they know how to screw things up!! So fear not, you are not alone. When do we find out? Also, does anyone know how flexible they are on next stage if as a family you are abroad? x

Itshardbeingamum · 14/11/2022 19:45

@Bigbun I'll keep my fingers crossed but also trying to manage expectations! I think we'll know by this Friday if not sooner..

Not sure on flexibility in terms of the second round, I am sure they will try and be accommodating but I believe its a relatively small window

Thank you for all your messages. Sounds like the first round was a bit of an unknown. I actually ended up pulling my DD out because I knew there was no chance she was going to go in without crying and I didn’t want to put her off for her assessment at her big sister’s school later that week.
Good luck all of you - fingers crossed you get through to round 2!

Yes good luck everyone! Does anyone know if we should expect to hear by email or whether they usually post the results?

ISW2022 · 21/12/2022 16:35

Anyone onto 2nd round? I wonder what to expect…

Rainbow17 · 27/12/2022 20:59

We are but no idea what to expect I’m afraid. Do you have any idea what the numbers are like in terms of numbers through to second round and number of offers?

ISW2022 · 28/12/2022 02:22

As far as I know, half of the girls get invited to round 2. So I guess about 100..?

Rainbow17 · 29/12/2022 16:22

Thanks. Still a lot then for only 24 places!

ISW2022 · 06/01/2023 16:19

Indeed… still sadly only 1:5 chance…😞
