Starting reception this week and got chickenpox

My DS is 4 and his first day at school is Wednesday for half days and full time from Monday.

He is not very confident socially and we have worked hard on gearing him up for school as he really didn't love nursery.

This morning he came out in chickenpox! Noticed a slight rash yesterday but today it is very clearly the chicken kind.

Can anyone tell me how long this might last?

I'm gutted for him as really wanted him to start with everyone else and ease in properly. All the other kids will know where they're going and what to do by the time he can start.

Just for a bit of reassurance...

My elder DD started reception a month late as we moved house, into a class who had mostly been at the attached nursery. On her second day she came home with a party invitation as the birthday girl insisted she needed to come as well as her old friends. By Christmas everyone had forgotten she had started late... and indeed hadn't been at the preschool!

Hope your lad feels better soon.... its about 10 days in my experience

He should be fine by Monday worst case - possibly Friday It will be fine whenever he starts and the teachers will look after him Smile

Thank you for your kind replies. It's hard not to overthink it! I guess he won't know it's not everyone's first day really.

That's good to know your DD settled so well @PuttingDownRoots. Must have been a worry for you at the time!

@LittleBearPad that would be good thank you! I have no idea how spotty it's all going to get Blush
