Laurus or Cheadle Hulme School

I'm looking at high schools for my son - does anyone have any experience of Laurus or Cheadle Hulme School? We could just about manage school fees for Cheadle Hulme School from year 7 - but don't know whether it would be better to go to Laurus and use the money for tutors/life experiences instead. Would welcome any comments!

Following as I can’t be far from you
I have only heard good things about
Laurus

I've heard good things about Laurus - not so good about Kingsway! It's a bit of a minefield trying to determine what's best! We're going to the Cheadle Hulme school open day in September as another issue is my son also wants to go to the same school as his friends! We've explained they will all be split up so there's no guarantee he'll be with friends in any case, so shouldn't make a decision based on that. It's so difficult! Also got to think about entrance exam prep if we go down the CHS route - another minefield!

My child is starting at CHS in y7 next week. I don't know anything about Laurus. What I will say is that the CHS entrance exam was very competitive this year, there were a lot of disappointed families. Next year may be similar as 2010 and 2011 were both high birth rate years (as was 2009).

@boredasusual how do you find out if your child was born in a high birth year?
We live not far from these schools either, although our children are younger.
I am just interested in how much competition they might face when it's their turn to apply for secondary.

Online data sources - if you look at the table I've attached it will show the detail, but essentially the rate has declined quite a bit every year since 2013, following a peak that lasted from 2008-2013. Im sure there will be regional data somewhere that gives a NW split but usually the same trends are seen around births whatever the geography.

@flflippetyflaps thank you so much

No worries. That's the birth rate per 1000 people by the way.
