Do schools pick up admissions in the holidays?

So I've applied for a transfer for my son that I'm hoping happens as soon as possible for reasons I can't disclose on here, but ideally he doesn't have to return to his school ever again!
There is a place at my requested school but I applied during the summer holidays. How likely is it that a decision will be made in time for the new term and would school place applications be picked up by the HT in the holiday's? LA have confirmed application is in processing but it all depends if they get a decision from the school.

Obviously this thread is coming from a parent who needs to move her child quickly for their wellbeing so please be kind as I know school staff are entitled to holidays.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi OP. Short answer is no. Ordinarily coordinated by the Attendance/Admissions officer and will likely be picked up during the first week back. New starters will be priority- those already known ie new to nursery and reception, my advice (from a school office staff member) is to call after 10am on the day the school reopens, I say after that time as the A/A officer will be busy early on with registration etc and ask if they could check their new admissions when convenient and explain the reason. I hope this helps.

Ah, that's fantastic news. Sit tight for school to get in touch for admission paperwork etc. All the best.

@CarmonEileen thank you.. do you know how long that takes? They start back on Wednesday. I'm guessing he won't be able to start the first day?

Do they have inset days next week? If so they'll send paperwork then. Ours are Google forms now so instant, depends what your school uses. He may well be able to start on Weds if they get a move on.

Unlikely to be the first day, the new to nursery and reception will probably take most of that up, I would say drop an email to the admin@ or equivalent of, and just let them know that your son has got a place and you're looking forward to hearing from them.
In my school (and obviously all are different) you would be asked to come in and pick up paper work to fill in and get a start date then, usually next day. It really all depends on how the school does their admissions.

Ok. I did pop them an email as per the admissions letter. I will wait to hear from them. It's awkward as I am back myself Monday (school worker) so I won't be able to pick anything until after work. Will see what they say
