Hi everyone

does anyone have any experience of any of these schools? All I’ve heard is derby high has become very popular!

Ds is going into year 2. Academic, loves learning and school. I had always thought that I would put him into private secondary if it was going to suit him but I am considering moving him at the end of year 3 into prep.

ill obviously look at the schools but any background info would be really helpful!

Thank you

I don't know anything about denstone but I went to look round derby grammar and derby high last year and chose derby high for my DS who starts there next week.
Derby grammar seemed very small and has just gone co-Ed - I would worry that it won't survive. There are now two co-Ed schools on the same road! Derby high just seemed more vibrant and a better fit for my DS (sporty) - I think it would depend on your child as to which school suits best but another thing that put me off derby grammar is that they have to get the bus to their sports fields as it is all off site.

Thank you! I think derby grammar does give the impression as being on a downward spiral. Did you think derby High was academic?

I think it is pretty academic - is that what you are after?

Denstone looks lovely though and a more traditional school experience with acres of land and more facilities whereas DHS is more compact and more culturally diverse as it's on the edge of a city. They are very different schools.

Denstone have brand new new prep building and acres of land. There’s a newish head who is investing lots in that end of the school

Looking for academic, not too stuffy but traditional in terms of skills they impart like leadership, speaking etc

Hi DGS here. We are a small, friendly, close knit school on the edge of Derby. Our sports facilities are off site however they are only 10 minutes up the road, this travel time is also timetabled in. Our sports centre includes a large rugby field, a full size AstroTurf, a small gym and a large sports hall which includes badminton courts, basketball hoops and netball hoops.

Come and see us for yourself.

@courgettecakes just wondering if you’re happy with DHS?
