Is your child at a fantastic primary school (state or private) in Cambs, Essex or Herts and if so which one?

We're really not happy with our dayughters primary school due to lots of issues too numerous to mention, we're therefore thinking of moving her to a different school. The one she's in has a good Ofsted report so rather than base a decision on Ofsted reports I thought I'd ask you lot.

Yes, currently I'd say ours is very good, and it's in one of the areas you mention, but not sure I want to say which online. Are you looking to relocate, or are you sitting on a county boundary atm?

We live in cambs at the moment and niether Essex or Herts are that far, we're considering moving as I haven't heard great things about any of the local schools. Can you say which town the school is in?

Mine is at a fantastic school in Herts - Hemel Hempstead.

The area is lovely - 5 min drive to countryside, 30 min trainlink to London and loads of good schools (secondary too).

If you want to move over to the far side of Herts. you could try Harpenden - loads of very good primary and secondary schools, very green and pretty, nice countryside on your doorstep.

All the primary schools in Hertford are very good. Secondary schools too.

I went to a great primary school in Herts! Ok I did start in 1979 and leave in '86 but I'm sure it must still be great. was in a lovely village just outside Hatfield

Depends on what you mean by fantastic
My children are at a private primary in the bit of Essex which is very close to Cambridgeshire. We have chosen it partly for the small class sizes but mainly for the great pastoral care. The academic results are not as good as most independent schools ie. not 100% at the top level! but each child is encouraged to do the best for their abilities therefore a lot of children move to it after being 'let down' by the 'excellent' state schools in this area. It also has quite a high number of children with mild special needs (which is probably unusual for a private school).
We think it's fantastic - our kids think it's fantastic.
Not sure if it's what you are looking for though.

The Primary and secondary schools in Hertford are excellent. My son has just started secondary after moving from primary there, we are very pleased.

We're in Welwyn Garden City (Pentley Park area) and DD attends a fabulous school which is outstanding in all Ofsted categories, but more importantly is a warm and sensible place with beautiful grounds and caring staff.

There is one just in Essex - on border with Cambs which has a very good reputation, but which is currently very difficult to get into. There was a thread on a similar topic last year and this was mentioned. In South Cambridgeshire there are several good primaries in the villages.

1dilemma · 19/01/2008 23:31

hmmm 1dilemma thinks wistfully about fantastic primary schools with green around them!

minnisota · 20/01/2008 15:31

Vixma - Do you mind me asking which schools?

There are loads in the South Cambs villages that are excellent

mummyinred · 21/01/2008 22:01

thanks everyone. Millarkie can you give me a name? Hertford sounds good but may be a bit far, I'll take a look though.

Dd isn't at school yet, but we have looked at local ones, and have chosen a private co-ed in Herts. Dh knows someone whose son has just started there, and they are delighted with it. This is it.
