school teams - am I unreasonable?

my ds aged 7 has just been left out of all of the six football teams for his year. There are 36 boys playing and 45 in his year in all so 9 have been left out. He was so upset and couldn't understand it. I just don't understand why they couldn't have taken the 9 extra boys (one of whom is injured and can't play anyway) and use them as reserves/subs. Am I being completely unreasonable?

i don't think YABU. Seems a bit odd really to leave out just 9 boys. I would ask school why.

This sort of thing happens all the time and my sons prep school.

It is really hard.

Last year he was one of 3 boys from the year not getting a prize at Prize Day and once he was the only boy not on the team list.

On that occasion I made the same point as LG - take him as a sub - you don't have to use him (he is a geek, 2 left feet and glasses but would like to think that he wasn't a complete sporting failure)

NO you're not BU......to leave out 9 boys!!!! Madness!
Mind you are you sure they knew he wanted to be in a team?

I think, at 7, they should all get a chance, but would also recognise that a team is a team. Will they get to play later on in the term?

a boy from DD's primary school was left out of the football squad so cannot do football after school now, he is about the keenest and best behaved of the boys in the class and pretty good at football. Sometimes the logic of the headteacher (it was her choice who played) goes beyond reason

My school divided my year into A, B, C, D, E & F rugby fifteens. From what was left they made a soccer team. Three of us were left over from that.

On the bright side, of these three one is a university lecturer in engineering, one is a university lecturer in music and one is a professor of physics. I think we won!

thanks for all your messages. He really wanted to play or just be included as asub. I have asked that the football teacher ring me so I can ask him exactly how bad my son is! and just to find out why they couldn't take subs. I am a bit fed up one thing all his teachers have told me is that he lacks confidence - no wonder!
