I'm not sure anyone will be able to help me but I thought I'd ask just in case. I've tried to google but can't find a definite answer.
One of the parents at my child's school has held the class kitty for years. No one has had any reason to worry about this and we've all just paid each year when asked. This year is our children's last year at primary school and we organised a fantastic end of school party. We paid ÂŁ100 each and this would have amounted to quite a few thousand. This money was held by the same parent.
Organising the party was extremely difficult because the parent who held the purse strings believed themselves to be the ultimate decision maker. They wanted the party to be a certain way and any suggestions that weren’t in line with their requirements were met with a unyielding no! Unfortunately everyone went along with this to start with. It turns out that the people arranging things had been expected to personally cover any expenditure and then request it back. One person paid out over £900 and spent a whole week trying to be reimbursed before the money was finally transferred. Even at this point there is a parent who is still owed £530 and is concerned they won’t receive it.
At the party there was a professional photobooth and, on leaving, the operator unfortunately handed the USB stick with all the photos on it to this parent – who promptly left without telling anyone they had it. They have forwarded the images (although some are missing) but will not respond to requests for the USB stick to be made available.
The money that was collected for the party appears to have been held in a personal account and all requests to see the accounts have been ignored. The other parents feel that due to this it will be extremely difficult to get hold of any information around how much was collected and where it was spent. I am concerned that there is a surplus and that this parent is intent on keeping it.
Does anyone know what I can do?
