New primary school - does it get easier?!

We’ve just moved and our DS (5) started a new primary school today. He’s in reception so only just over a week until summer hols and then he’ll be going into year one in September.

I felt so sad leaving previous school as it was a lovely environment and feel for him being the new boy (and me being the new mum!) at school. Please tell me it gets easier?! Starting to wonder if we should have uprooted him now.

We moved house and schools at Easter with dd6 and dd8 starting new schools and i felt the same as they loved their old school. They have both settled really well but did miss their old schools for the first couple of weeks whilst they made new friends and got used to new routines but after that they haven't looked back and yes it definitely gets easier!. I've found birthday parties the best place to meet school mums - had a few class parties for DD6 already- yr1 is a good age for class parties!. For DD9 as parties have been much smaller with a couple of friends- but I have met a few people that way as well as helping out at a couple of school events. Neither of mine are the new kids in their class any more and have had at least one other leaver/joiner so he won't be the new one for long I'm sure.
Will your DS do any clubs/activities over the summer where he might get to know other kids from his school a bit better? Our after school provider runs the holiday club so it's mainly kids from the school-mine did a couple of sessions at Easter before they started school.

Thanks @noscoobydoodle for your reassuring words. This makes me feel much better! Fingers crossed for some class parties in year 1 and I will look into some clubs over the summer - good idea. Must try and put myself out there over this next week and be friendly / try and arrange some meet ups over the summer. Thanks again. It’s so hard not to worry, isn’t it!
