In year applications when relocating

We're are relocating this summer to another area in the UK.

There are two preferred primary schools which I've made applications for and spoken to. I also have plans to have a tour of them this month but as it stands (as of 1st June when I spoke to them last) they don't have a place in my child's year group. Obviously this can change.

I understand I won't really know if this changes until schools starts again in September.

My question is, do I make in year applications to other schools or only the schools I'd be happy to send DC to or do I wait until September and go from there?

I'd apply for as many schools as the form allows. That will increase your chance of a place for September. You can presumably go on waiting lists, so if a space becomes available you can switch later on.

Check what will happen if there is no space in your preferred school... with us, we were offered the nearest school with a place.

Put an application in for as many schools allowed, in the order of your preference. If your dc is year 2 or lower Infant Class Size restrictions apply, if not there may be a little flexibility. You can go on waiting lists for any you choose once you are refused a place but will probably be allocated the nearest with a space in the meantime if none of your list can accommodate.
