Moving to Whitstable

I’m thinking of moving to Whitstable to be closer to my brother who lives in Broadstairs . It’ll be myself and my 7 year old daughter. Is it a nice friendly place? Are there any areas to avoid? Is there enough for kids to do? Are there good schools you can recommend? So many questions, I know, but it’s quite scary making such a big move. Thankyou

I’d love to live there but as it’s in Kent and has the grammar school system then it wasn’t for our family. It’s expensive compared to other parts of Kent. Lovely though-in summer. Herne bay is cheaper.

I live in Kent but not actually in Whitstable. But I do work there. It is quite a nice area nowadays. Looking at secondaries though I believe that Herne Bay high which has both secondary modern and grammar streams has a better reputation than the whitstable secondary school. So you might want to consider moving into catchment of Hernebay High (its on west side of Herne Bay so possibly Tankerton might be in). To find out last distance offered in Kent you have to make a freedom of information act request as they don't publish this information. Agree with above poster grammar system is pretty awful, very hit and miss and the secondary moderns mostly have pretty poor results. Thanet also has some good secondaries.
