Appeal for a place

I have applied a school in my catchment but was reject due to full capacity. The school suggested me to lodge an appeal. Would anyone please share the reasons for appeal? Thanks.

Which year group is it for? If it's for Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 it will be subject to the Infants Class size rule which means that classes can't be larger than 30. So if there are already 30 (or multiple of 30) in the year, they can't admit any more. In this case, you have to show that a mistake was made with your application.

If it's for a higher year group, ICS doesn't apply, and you just need to prove that the detriment of not admitting your child is greater than the detriment to the school of admitting them . In this case, you need to look at positives that the school offers, that are relevant for your child, that your allocated school doesn't (you do hopefully have an allocated school?) This could be something like good music provision if your child has a particular musical ability.

Is this for reception and was your application done on time?
Also, did you only apply for one school?

Thanks redskyatnight and Raera for your advices. It will be P3 in August. I have just applied one school.

Are you in Scotland

redskyatnight · 29/05/2022 17:56

Ah - if you are in Scotland, my advice is probably not relevant. Scottish admission work different to English ones.

KT430 · 30/05/2022 00:46

Yes, I am in Scotland.
