Reception admissions - living in Ealing but applying to Hounslow

Hi all, I am sure this question has been asked elsewhere but I am still trying to figure out how primary school admissions exactly work and would be grateful for advice. We are planning to move to Ealing but will be very close to (i.e. well within catchment of) a Hounslow school. Could I please ask any knowledgeable parents if Hounslow council treats applications from Hounslow residents first/higher than applications from residents of other boroughs .... or is distance the sole criterion irrespective of which borough you live in?
Many thanks

The fact that you will be living in another borough won't make a difference as it can't be taken into account. If you go to Hounslow.gov.uk you will be able to look at the admission criteria that were used this year. You can also find out the distance from which children were admitted. I think that it may be in the admissions brochure.

How will you be close to a Hounslow school as ealing is nowhere near hounslow

Ealing and Hounslow are adjacent to each other @Barckays so I don't know what gave you that idea. I say this with absolute confidence as a former resident of and teacher in both boroughs whose children attended school in both boroughs.

Some Hounslow schools have a much larger intake than others and they also have a tendency towards single sex/faith schools at secondary. You can be in catchment in theory but if you are not within spitting distance not get a place due to sibling preference and people living even closer (e.g. at Spring Grove).

The London Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow share a considerable border!

One borough cannot prefer applicants simply because they live in its borough. Applications must be ranked using the published admissions criteria, so you would need to look at those for the specific schools.

Clearly you’re not from around here so why bother to comment?
