Wise mumsnetters, need your advice as can't sleep 😫.
DD starting reception September, we got lucky and got her into an out of catchment school hoping to move nearby soon. School is a very friendly 2 form entry with average to below average results.
However, a new housing development appeared next to another school I viewed, which is a more academic 1 form entry. They still have 4 spaces left!
Discussed it with husband, he's keen on the house and thinks we should put DD for the other school before she starts reception. It's an easy drive unit we move.
I'm slightly worried she won't have enough friends in that other school? They will be turning into two form entry in a couple of years to take in kids from the new estate
If we keep the current school it might take us longer to move plus it's a drive. We need to move due to space
Are there any other factors I should be considering in this situation?!

I think you need to be firm on where you are moving too. I’m confused- if you chose an out of catch school & hope to move nearby soon, presumably you had a house lined up? Why are you now looking at a different one? And all that aside, are you certain you can get a house on this new estate & you aren’t going to change your mind again? You can’t keep flipping between schools on a whim, it’s not that simple to simply get a place.

If you are going to go for a new build, then commit & go for the school near there. You will need to re-apply as a late applicant. You may find that after offer day, other families are interested and currently going through the process of re-applying. You may not get a place if they all live closer then you currently do. It’s not a quick process, if you re-apply, you won’t find out until June at the earliest..

Hi sorry to be unclear, it was late when I wrote the post!
Where we currently live is just over a mile from the school, school is in an area of nice housing so we could possibly take our time (to an extend- we need space!) and wait for a suitable house to come up. There are plenty of decent sizes ones there so it shouldn't be impossible.

I just called the admissions and was told that if there's space at the other school they'd let us know if we have space within a couple of weeks, not sure if it depends on the LA?
The new housing estate is at the beginning of development and they said they'll have plenty of 4 bed houses being build in the next two years.

I know we've been flipping, we should have moved a year ago really, that's what you get for not getting your act together I guess.
Part of me just wants to stay put and not change it.

I just made some phone calls and will make a decision after seeing some houses. It's not ideal timing. Talked to estate agents as well we might be ok keeping our school choice as housing market currently good in our area.
I guess I should have called them first but nobody was open at midnight when I was up! Thank you all those who read my musings.

I'd stick with the place you have until you've actually found a house to move to.
