Private school St Aubyn's vs. Church school Wanstead

Just trying to gain some insight. Our daughter has recently been offered a place at Wanstead Church school (we are regular worshippers) and also received an invite to sit an assessment at St Aubyn's school.

She has been going to nursery in Woodford and has developed according to her teachers ''really well'' and is ''quite advanced for her age'' - which is an absolute blessing.

The nursery did ask where she would be going next year. When I mentioned Wanstead Church they wondered whether she would be challenged enough (academically I reckon). Wanstead is an outstanding school. I did mention that she was also at the waiting list at St Aubyn's.

I am really torn. I do believe that she will pass the assessment (she is quite confident), but also wonder whether going down the private route is always great value for money. Are there any parents here with experience of any of these schools? We did attend open days and we liked the schools a lot - especially St Aubyn's and if money would not be a factor, I would certainly be happy for her to go there. That said, Wanstead Church seems a lovely little school too.

I am trying to figure out what added benefits my daughter would get from private and whether these benefits are worth the money my partner and I would be paying for it.

St Aubyn’s is not known as particularly academic! You may be reading too much into the comments from the nursery.
Wanstead church school has a great reputation so if I were you I would save my money.

Thank you so very much! I am strongly leaning towards Wanstead Church indeed.

Help, May I ask whether you decided for st Aubyn’s or not. I am unable to make decision between st Aubyn’s, Loyola and Woodford green prep. If you have any idea about any of school from your own or friends family experience, that would be helpful to know . TIA

We went to St Aubyn's in the end and we are happy there. I find them strong enough on academics and also on social behaviour aspects. Our DD is happy there. Any questions do let me know.

Thank you very much for your response. If St Aubyn’s are strong on academics I might consider it then. DS is my first child and I am new in this country so finding it hard to navigate without much of a social circle to discus. I appreciate your response.

St Aubyns is strong enough on academics from my perspective. It is more all round education, i.e. also has a focus on personal development. As I said, our DD is very capable and is doing well.
