Hi there,

Looking to relocate to Nottingham from Essex next summer (2023) with children going into yr 6 and yr 5.

Beeston is looking like a good area to raise a family — any advice or alternative suggestions? Please help with which schools we should be aiming for?

Any insights or advice would be incredible, thank you.

Beeston in Leeds?

Monkeytapper · 28/04/2022 10:44

sorry, Nottingham, no idea

There is a Beeston in Cheshire. There is also one in Leeds.
Why do people not do a basic search and put the county in the title.

I have friends in Beeston, it's always seemed like a lovely place to live.

There is another thread on here regarding moving to Nottingham, which might help. www.mumsnet.com/talk/other_subjects/4536683-where-in-nottingham-5miles-is-a-nice-place-to-live
Beeston is pleasant area, with a decent shopping area and lots of indie cafes and shops. There is quite a lot of terraced housing and parking can be a nightmare. DS lived in Beeston when he was at UoN and there is good access to the Uni, so quite popular for students.
West Bridgeford is also a good area, and I understand has good schools, but that view might be affected by his teacher friends.

Should have said that property in Nottingham is selling quickly, especially in parts of Beeston, and has been for the last year. DS is looking to buy around Beeston has been outbid hugely on a few houses (eg 20% over, cash buyer) , and was unhappy about the managing agent of the communal grounds on another possible. Also Beeston in some Estate Agents parlance includes areas adjacent to the M1.
Finally, when Nottingham was "on my work patch" there was some discussion about the proposed route of HS2 possibly going through Toton. Not sure where HS2 plans are at the moment, so I might be talking rubbish

Thanks, I have requested Nottingham to be added to the title.

Beeston is nice, you have highfields there which is a big park with a boating lake and play park for the kids.
Ive personally lived near beeston and have moved to mapperley which i prefer.

It's very studenty. I used to go to Beeston and take lots of drugs Grin

Beeston is a nice place to live. Big student population but lots of families too and now had a cinema and a strong cafe culture. There is a tram in to central Nottingham from beeston.
lots of Victorian terrace houses but some semi and detached as well.
have you picked beeston for a particular reason? the park in central Nottingham and west bridgford are very popular but more affordable is bramcote and wollaton. Schools in Wollaton and bramcote are very good/outstanding .
