Apps to help support 7+ preparation?

Please could I ask which are the best maths and English apps to help support 6 year old DS prepare for 7+? He's at state school so I realise we are probably behind somewhat at this point....

I've been doing the Bond maths, English and VR/NVR books with him, he is very able but his concentration lasts about 15 minutes and then he is done and there is no convincing him to do any more, plus I don't want to push him and make him hate it. He loves using the laptop however so I'm thinking I could supplement by letting him use some fun apps... happy to pay a subscription if worth it. I know there are lots out there but if there are any tailored towards the 7+ content that would be great.

Thank you!!

My 6 year old is a very good student in a state school and we are not sitting the 7 plus. I can only tell you what I do with him to enrich and extend his learning -

  1. Writing and composition - To aim for writing stamina and complexity - we write daily. I introduce different formats of writing - stories, reports, diaries, letters. He knows what complex writing is - beginnings middles and ends! Characters with names doing fun things! Problems inside a story! Speech, cool adjectives, fun adverbs. Introducing suspense. My work with him
On composition takes off from day to day activities (like yesterday we were at a castle so he’s writing a report on it with all sorts of words!). Building writing stamina and being able to write with complexity and nuance is key here.
  1. Daily maths practice. We do mental maths games in cars. We use the 1 minute maths app from white rose if waiting at the nursery for baby sister. We also do more traditional things like Bond Books, the mathletics site and the Collins and Minecraft maths books. He’s very good at maths and we do maths daily.
  1. Grammar and spelling- he’s in the highest phonics group so brings home a strange new spelling daily - mischievous, knelt, dangerous, resource were the last few. We supplement this with getting him to understand spelling and grammar rules. We use free reader books (horrid Henry is the craze now) and he reads to us and his sister daily. He knows nouns verbs adjectives adverbs and uses different types of sentences (commands, questions, exclamations) correctly. Bonds books, Minecraft English books and BBC Bitesize for a year or two up are key here.
  1. And last - we’ve got a little library full of Usborne and DK encyclopaedia type books. He freely explores all sorts of topics from the earths core to disgusting insects - and it all feeds into the writing.

We also use 7 plus papers and KS2 SATS past papers to guide us in supporting him in the right directions.

So - no help I’m afraid with the 7 plus I’m afraid as he’s not taking it but we do supplement his outstanding state school significantly (and with lots of extra curricular things too) so hope this helps.

Hi,
Nice to meet you all!
I hope you are all well!
I was wondering whether someone could advise me please on what Apps/ other learning materials / tuition to use to help my sons prepare for the 7 + and 8 + exams.

I am practising past papers and considering doodle learning or Tuition but not sure which of these / whether any of these would really help!

I am so unsure and wondered whether someone could advise me. He cant do atom learning yet because he is Year 2 and they only start in Year 3.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Argita

Frankly, I'd avoid the apps as they're of limited benefit.

What's a much better idea is getting some Bond Year 2 books from somewhere like Exam Ninja, Amazon or WH Smiths and spending some time with him on them.

Then, when it comes to practice 7+ papers, have a look at EPP.
