Does anyone know the minimum requirement for teaching staff in the classroom?

My DD is in reception. This term she only has 11 in her class and I have found out this morning that they have lost the TA in the morning so they only have the teacher. Does anyone know what the minimum requirement is for qualified/unqualified adults in the classroom at any one time? Also is there anyway I can find out whether someone is a qualified TA?

Thanks!

I have no idea but "in my day" we had 30 or more to a class and just one teacher.
am sure she'll be fine with ll of them lol

Schools often have 30 children to one teacher, sometimes maybe just the odd parent helper or PT/shared TA.

I don't think you could find out how qualified a person was without asking.

The only requirement that I am aware of is in infants there must be one teacher to every 30 children. So if there were 33 children in a class you would have to have 2 teachers not 1 teacher and a TA (happened in a school I was in). Some children are given a set number of hours of support from a TA because of special needs statements etc. In general OFSTED would expect a TA in a reception class but not so much with only 11 children. Presumably they have one in the afternoon. 11 in a class sounds great, enjoy it while you can.

In a Government report written in 2006 this statistic was considered a good point:

The pupil:adult ratio has fallen from 13.4 to 12.8 in primary

So having 1 teacher for 11 pupils would be considered very good.

Squirtle - not sure if that is entirely true. Our local primary has 2 classes which share one large classroom, seperated by a few stairs. They are allowed up to 70 children between the two classes, with just 2 FT teachers and a TA.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Don't get me wrong I know 11 in a class is good I just wondered if there was a minimum. Also was disappointed that this wasn't communicated, I just happened to find out today.
