Mid-Term applications - applying directly

My LA has changed their system so they now only deal with mid-term applications for community and voluntary controlled infant, junior and primary schools, for all other types you have to apply directly to the schools.

I want to apply for a Yr 3 place for September (currently EHE). I had thought if I applied now that would be the case, but I'm not sure if this applies to academy schools? I guess just make it clear when applying.

You would need to check in the procedures in place for the school you want/ local authority you are in but, certainly in my local authority you are expected to take up any place given within a short period of time -2-3 weeks usually. So you wouldn't be able to apply now for a place not needed until September. Given the intervening summer holidays, you could probably apply early July for a September place but not much before.

You can only apply the half-term before you require a school place unless your authority allows you to apply for an infant to junior place as a late application on 19 April. It depends on the local arrangements whether you can apply to a primary school for a junior place.

It’s too early to apply or September now but you could enquire as to whether there are any spaces at the moment, and get on a waiting list if they’re full.

Thank you, I can't find the information on when I should apply, but I think after the last half-term sounds familiar.

LA has said I can apply from 31st May for community and VC schools so hopefully the academy schools will have the same process

It will be the same for academies/own admission authorities.

Round here it doesn't matter the type of school, they all expect you to take the place within 2-3 weeks of it becoming available, a friend had to move her DC 3 weeks before the summer holidays. Ideally they don't want a gap between one child leaving and the next starting.
Only thing that might make a difference is if it's a junior school so no option to start now in year 2.
