Moving to Margate

Hi all

I am considering moving to Margate from south east London. I have young children so interested to know from parents who live there what the primary and secondary schools are like?

Also, what would life be like for children growing up in the area? Good schools are important to me and I imagine the grammar schools are oversubscribed. Are there good performing comprehensive schools? I have done some research on this through various websites and the picture did not look good.

All feedback greatly appreciated!

Margate has the highest crime rate in Kent and is seriously deprived. I wouldn't move there with kids, no.

Have you looked at Maidstone?

Hipsters have been heading to Margate for years now, it has a thriving art scene and lots of gov money and private money is pumping into the town.

Like a lot of reasons to move to Margate, but it is still a deprived and that's reflected in the schools.

Broadstairs you can have brilliant schools and the life by the sea, not too far from Margate either.

Grammar schools in Thanet are not over-subscribed. CCGS, in particular, tend to rely on non-qualification appeals to keep its numbers up.

I agree that broadstairs is a better option. It’s all a very deprived part of the country with a lack of diversity.
