Scary when teacher shouts

My child says it's scary when the teacher shouts
And it's very fierce
Is this normal for children to feel like this when teachers shout?

I remember teachers shouting at primary and it scared the crap out of me 😂 Still don't cope well with being reprimanded (at normal volume)

There were always some ‘shouty’ teachers when I was little, mainly male ones.
They were known for being a bit scary unless you were actually in their class. It’s not really acceptable now. But having worked in a school I would also say kids use the term ‘shouting’ very loosely, because quite frankly it’s rare nowadays and they don’t know what real shouting is. To them a stern tone can be shouting.

When my ds were in primary school parents were encouraged to volunteer to be classroom helpers so I did a few times. I was genuinely shocked by the teachers I saw shouting, and I always thought if they do that in front of parents what do they do otherwise.

My 9 year old tells me to stop shouting if I say something he either doesn't like, or use a firm tone of voice.

I think you need to unpick exactly what your child is upset about.

I am a teacher, I don't shout, if the teacher is shouting enough to make a child scared about going to school you should go in and talk to her/him about why.If that does not work talk to the head.
No child should be scared of their teacher. A child that is scared either won't learn or won't enjoy their learning which will be an issue at some point.
That said some teachers are under so much stress due to the workload that they end up shouting either way it is wrong.

I'm not a teacher but I agree with this 100%. Your DD should not be scared going to school.
