So we get our secondary placement for my son on Tuesday and I am totally freaking out!!! Anyone else feeling the same anxious feelings I honestly don't no which school he will get but I am actually hoping it's his third choice now as it's the school most of his friends will most likely go to.. I don't really have to worry about my son as he pretty much makes friends wherever he goes but I think he might be gutted not going with them..

Often by October half term existing friendships have changed and new ones developed anyway.

We are waiting too! I think I know the school he will get into but am also keen to get the email! He has put our closest choice first, his second closest as second (and this is where the majority of his primary school will go) and third is our third closest! All schools are walking distance. I'm certain he will get into his first choice although sometimes wonder if he should have chose the school his school year will mostly be going too. He seems to have made more good friends in the last six months than previously (always had friends but now has a lot of friends) all of whom aren't going to his first choice school. He is a sociable well liked chap though so I'm sure he'll be fine anywhere!

I am really worried. We have put down the feeder school for my school but it's over 30 mins away and last year they had over 800 applicants for 200 spaces!

Try not to worry, that’s not unusual in a system where every child makes 3-6 applications (depending on area), so there’s always going to be more applications than children in an area!

Don't worry about friends. Never vasebthe decision on friends. The people I know who did that regretted it as they are no longer friends with the people they "followed " and are stuck with more difficult arrangements than if they'd have gone on more local or more easily accessible schools.

There's a thread in secondary education on this already but I get the freak out don't worry. This is my second time around and although I've made the decision to not go the appeal route this time I'm still panicking a little as dd2 has her heart set on one I don't think we will get.

Best advice i can give is try to manage expectations. I've been very clear with dd that although there is a very small chance of accessing a place on the waiting list that she will just have to accept where they put her and make the most of it.

We find out on Tuesday too. We put our closest school as first choice. It's the school that his primary feeds into and the one his cousin and our neighbour goes to. He doesn't want to go to high school at all but knowing some people who go there will help. He has extra needs (adhd and autism) and the school we've applied for seems to do a good job with children like him.
