Hi, I wanted to share something i'm working on It's a bit basic at the moment but hopefully you get the idea.

It lets you set up a list of spellings. Kids can then listen to the words and get wordle style hints if they make a mistake.

Initial testing on my two dyslexic kids is positive but I wanted to see what others made of it.

You can try it here Splurdle

Looks good!

jimmyreckon · 07/02/2022 19:08

We have access through school to spelling shed but this looks good - will definitely give it a go on this week's spellings for reinforcement

I’ve just done this with my DD (year 6), using the year 5/6 spellings. Brilliant - she loved it. You could preprogramme the spelling lists for people. And could be prettier. But def a great idea. Also for example when doing “mischievous” she knew it ended vous, but stumbled in the middle. Learning common endings is a good tactic in spelling, so could you enable students to fill the boxes in any order? Makes complicated looking words much easier when you chunk them down and realise you just have to learn the middle bit.

Thanks, this is great. I've played it with my Y4 DD who loved it as she has been loving wordle. Only thing was that the words came up in the same order she entered them. Is there a way to randomise the words? Also it would be good to be able to save word lists to go back to the next day.

thank you all, great feed back. You can copy the link and save that (or share it) for now. I'll add someway of saving your latest lists next.

Love it! Going to try with my 5 year old this week as he has been loving “helping’ with wordle 😆

Mostlyjustrunning · 07/02/2022 20:02

That’s really good thank you!

MamaWren · 07/02/2022 20:02

Just tried it with my kids and they love it! Great to be able to add our own words easily.

Mostlyjustrunning · 07/02/2022 20:25

One small suggestion- would you be able to have an option for colour blind?

CookieMunch · 07/02/2022 20:30

Looks great. I struggled to understand the words ‘big’ and ‘lost’ when it said them. Wasn’t very clear. The green and amber colour feedback is really useful! And it eas very easy to enter the words

Duxiejhrhrvjz · 07/02/2022 20:52

Just to let you know I am also going to try this with my DS tomorrow.

FelicityPike · 07/02/2022 21:00

You are an actual GENIUS.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant!

Nosetickle · 07/02/2022 21:07

This is brilliant I will try with my dd in the morning but she loves watching me do wordle so I think it’ll be a hit!

PitchImperfect · 07/02/2022 21:09

That's fab! I have an 8yo with dyslexia who's incredibly resistant to doing anything involving letters. Just got him to have a go when he came to say goodnight & he's so pleased with himself for working it out!

mugoftea456 · 07/02/2022 21:13

Amazing !! Thank you!

MarthaJonesPhone · 07/02/2022 21:22

This is such a great idea, will try it with dyslexic dc in the morning.

Bagadverts · 07/02/2022 21:34

Just tried it out. Not just good for children, also adults like me that didn’t learn to spell and don’t want to rely on spell check. Maybe you could add list of hard words.

Would be good to have pre loaded because a parent needs to be good at spelling and not accidentally autocorrect a word but not notice.

I don’t know how things work - do you need to get copyright or something as the idea is now free available online so can anyone just copy your idea or is it protected?

MadeForThis · 07/02/2022 21:37

Love it

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 07/02/2022 21:40

Ooh my year 2s will love this

HairyScaryMonster · 07/02/2022 21:47

This is completely amazing thank you!

multivac · 07/02/2022 21:48

This is very cool. One possible issue for me is that it's impossible to misspell a word by, say, forgetting a double letter - you can only misspell it with the correct number of total letters. Not sure how to get around that, though! Unless you have a maximum length of word, keep the grid the same, and count spaces as 'letters'?

Neverwrestlewithapig · 07/02/2022 22:05

Great idea! I think this could work really well. Only thing is that the name is a little problematic… have you tried googling it? Blush

tjsdavies · 07/02/2022 22:50

Thank you, great feed back and lots to think about. I just added a way to save your spelling lists Also after a quick google I may just change the name!

I’ve just done this with my year 2 DC and while she was engaged it was difficult for her to understand some of the words said by the automated voice and she was frustrated trying to find the letters on the keyboard and after a few goes she wanted to tell me what letters to type.

AThroneOfLies · 08/02/2022 18:15

I’ve not played wordle before so not sure if I’m doing it right…..
I typed the 5 words I wanted dc to learn, it gave me one of the words but I can’t seem to get past this screen?
Once I get the hang of it though what a fab idea!
