My DS is sitting for the 7+ exams this year and January 2022. We already have an interview call for city boys. Still waiting to hear Highgate. Any other parents here prepping for 7+ in these school?

Do you only hear if you get an offer? If UCS has gone out it shouldn’t be long for Highgate.

kallmanskate · 28/01/2022 11:42

@Surfermum40 can you let me know if you hear re: Highgate? I’ve been watching this thread, first time posting.

Surfermum40 · 28/01/2022 12:05

@kallmanskate Highgate came through post. We got offers for both UCS and Highgate. Habs still nothing has been sent. Look out for Royal Mail.

Of course I’m on a business trip checking email incessantly. Congrats on the offers. So they arrived today? Will put husband on high alert.

SnoopyForever · 28/01/2022 13:09

We just Highgate offer through email

kallmanskate · 28/01/2022 14:10

Reserve list at Highgate. Now we wait some more!

Surfermum40 · 28/01/2022 14:45

@kallmanskate reserve list should move in a week if not earlier. Would be quite a few overlapping with UCS and Habs.

Thanks so much. We’re happy with the outcome. It was our “stretch school”.

7plus11plus · 28/01/2022 19:32

DD received Highgate offer by post first then the email came too. Habs girls sent offer by email today. Not sure about the boy school.

SnoopyForever · 28/01/2022 22:50

Wonder what are people's top choices if they hold more than one offer - UCS/Habs/City/Highgate? Go for the most convenient geographically or is that not the most important factor to consider?

Surfermum40 · 28/01/2022 23:10

We are facing the predicament as well. Deciding between UCS, Habs and Highgate. Location pretty much equidistant to all except UCS which goes over by 5-10 mins tops. Very hard decision to make. Would love some insight.

SnoopyForever · 28/01/2022 23:28

@Surfermum40 are you leaning towards one of those schools at the moment? Hard decision to make if they are equidistant! Habs is the furthest away for us but otherwise would probably be our top choice. What is your DS like? Does he have a preference?

Surfermum40 · 28/01/2022 23:41

DS likes Habs and Highgate equally. We are tempted by the lush grounds at Habs but feel a co Ed environment would really suit DS. Academic wise I don’t particularly see a difference. One year it’s one school higher and the other another one. I’ve heard the pastoral care is lovely at Highgate and DS enjoyed the DT lab. We have no feedback on UCS.

We’ve ruled out city due to distance.

7plus11plus · 29/01/2022 07:46

We are choosing between City, Habs and Highgate. Really love Habs but it’s too far, if we accept it we have to move. We live in central/north london, same distance to city and Highgate.

Surfermum40 · 29/01/2022 10:14

@7plus11plus what school is DS leaning towards?

OP posts:
7plus11plus · 29/01/2022 10:55

This is for DD. DS is doing 11+ (hence the name) Atm we lean towards City but we do have our concerns. It’s a new junior school while Habs and Highgate junior departments are well established.

Mimosa1 · 29/01/2022 15:13

We are leaning towards City for DD as it’s closest geographically but going to the offer holders day next week before we commit. We love the idea of Highgate as coed and the grounds are gorgeous but it’s a long way the wrong direction for us.

kallmanskate · 29/01/2022 16:29

What did you all think about the “rape culture” report? My top concern is the pressure going on boys at the school to counteract their previous reputation.

at Highgate
SnoopyForever · 29/01/2022 21:41

@kallmanskate I've heard you get much the same in other schools, it's not unique to Highgate per se. What I have also heard is that many Highgate families are uber wealthy hence drugs etc can be more of an issue at secondary school level. But probably you get all these same issues at most other private schools?!

Surfermum40 · 30/01/2022 09:46

Has anyone else decided on schools? We are torn between Highgate, UCS and Habs. All amazing schools and all pretty much equidistant.

OP posts:
7plus11plus · 30/01/2022 10:08

Not deciding yet. It depends if you want to 11+ 4 years later or not. We are definitely avoid it so will look at their senior schools for DD rather than prep schools.

These schools mentioned are part of DS’s 11+ choices as well. Habs boys is better than UCS and Highgate in my opinion, if distance is not a problem.

SnoopyForever · 31/01/2022 11:15

@7plus11plus any particular reasons why you think Habs boys is better than UCS and Highgate? Thank you :)

7plus11plus · 31/01/2022 11:39

We are blown away by Habs on the open day. UCS is very small by comparison. Highgate has beautiful grounds too, but inside the building not so much. I admit all 3 are very good schools and have similar results, I just personally think Habs has far better facilities.
