7+ Prep

My DD is in Y1 in a very good state primary. We’re planning to sit for 7+ for Bute House but no other schools because if she isn’t offered a place, she’ll stay at her current school and we’ll tutor for 11+. We’d like to keep it low key as it’s not that big a deal for us if she doesn’t get in but we’d like to give it a good shot with prep at home over the next 12 months.

She is a very strong reader (reads anything and everything); has recently developed a love of writing stories at home although they’re not that long and her spelling is mixed. Her mental maths are pretty good and she is naturally very curious.

Can others please help me with how to get started with prep so that we can keep it fun and low stress including best resources to use?

Many thanks.

title amended at OP's request.

Afternoon, @BeccaBean we've edited your thread title now, as requested, and hopefully someone will be along very soon with useful advice.

Thanks.

Thanks Liv. I wondered if anyone could help me with where to start with 7+ prep in general as I’m not sure where to start. There is limited information on the Bute House website and no sample papers available. Many thanks!

I don't know have any experience of the 7+, but I tutor a child who has a 7+ writing book, which I would really recommend.

I hadn't actually realised it was so expensive (£59) but I'm finding it useful: exampapersplus.co.uk/papers/seven-plus/complete-guide-7-plus-exam-writing/

There's also some information about Bute House on the same website:

I’d give DD a few past papers from top boys and girls’ schools which are widely available on the internet (search 7+ past papers). You’ll see if there are any serious gaps.
EPP papers are excellent resource for practicing in timed conditions, we started doing them in summer after DS finished Year 1.

A friend's Dd goes to Bute and she did Bond papers and past papers to prepare
