Primary applications whilst moving house

Hello all,

We are moving house around 30 minutes drive away, and will likely exchange/complete around February time. Our daughter is nearly 4.
Unfortunately this is after the cutoff for reception applications.

Are we best to apply in our current area for local schools, and then re-apply as a late application in the new area?
If a place cannot be obtained will she be placed in a school further away?

I will speak to local authorities but have had trouble contacting them so far.
Any advice is welcome, thank you

You need to apply from the address where you are living at the time of application. And to the LA where you are living at that time. You can put any schools on the form.

As above, you need to apply from where you’ll be living on the 15th jan, then they usually give 10 days moving grace and you have to prove your new address by 25th jan

Would we apply for schools in the new location from our current LA? Or apply for local ones at our current address and reapply in the new location after moving?

Yes, apply for schools in new location as your first preferences,

Keep chasing local authority... They are only real people that can clarify.

My friend had to prove house purchase was at certain stage by a set date and then had moved in by another date...

My friend got in using the address of her new house before completion to get her daughter a place. She was open that was the situation though with the new LA. This wasn’t London but it was England.

I’d contact the LA - in her case she was moving several hours away which might have influenced the approach.

Good luck
