Sheen Mount Primary VS Thomson House School

Hello,
We are thinking to send our eldest son to one of the state schools Sheen Mount or Thomson House. We are both in the catchment area but we have not decided yet as we are also considering the indipendent schools. I am more for independent school while my husband would prefer to give a try to state schools. The fact is that our son is quite bright, sociable, sweet, very helpful with his friends, very energetic and active. Sometimes he is also a sensitive boy but he really loves his friends, playing outdoor, painting, dancing, music. Said this we are wondering if any of Sheen Mount or Thomson House would be appropriate for him or it is much better the independent one? i have the fear to make the wrong choice as he is a quite bright boy and do not want to send him to a state one and there is not a lot of stimulation, interaction and on year 11+ he will not be able to catch up with his peers whether we decide to send him to a independent one. Very confusing.
Waiting for any suggestions.

Thanks
Isi

Sheen Mount is one of the most desirable state primaries in the borough. Have you spoken to your neighbours about where their dc go and to the school to find out in an average year how many spaces there are after sibling priority etc. Many parents have a private place and wait to see their state school allocation in April and then decide. As long as you give the private school 1 terms notice you aren't liable for a terms fees but will
lose the deposit. Sometimes extras like the wrap around care or availability of sports clubs can make the difference plus the state school school year is around 6 weeks longer than the private school year - 33 weeks v 39 weeks.

Many state schools do indeed offer stimulation and interaction. Hmm Who knew?

I’d go for a private school. I imagine you’d be one of ‘those’ nightmare parents for whom nothing in the state sector will be good enough.

Hi Isi, hope you’re well. Just wanted to check if you chose either of the two schools. We have been offered a place in TH and in waiting list for SM. I am confused as both schools look amazing. TH is more convenient to us though. I was wondering what’s your experience been with the reception class?
