In year admissions - date change

Any advice on this appreciated.

We recently completed on a house. We're doing minor decorating etc and had planned to move in on Friday 3rd Dec (didn't have to leave current flat immediately).

I applied for in year admissions to the local council for places starting on Mon 6th Dec. Applied last Monday so waiting to hear back, hopefully at the end of this week

However we're now considering putting off the move until the following week for various reasons.

We could delay new school start by a week or just let them miss last week of term and start in Jan.

In any case does anyone have any advice on what I should do regarding school admissions application? If we get offered places this week for a start on Mon 6th Dec as we requested are we allowed to change that start date by a week? Or should I call the council now and update our application? Unlikely to make much difference in terms of the schools we're offered.

Any advice or experience appreciated.

I would wait to be offered a place and then discuss the start date with the school. You usually get 3 weeks to start, not including holidays. So unless they are mega quick and give you a place in the next few days, you should be fine.

You have asked to start on December 6th but I suspect you could easily still be waiting for a school place and start date then. Different LAs have different time scales to which they operate and wish pupils to start within.
Whilst you are supposed to inform the LA of any changes of dates etc I would not do anything at present until you are absolutely sure of your move date. When the LA respond with a school place and a date then if necessary you can tell them you need to delay by a week. Normally this would not be a problem for the LA or the school. There is a reasonable chance that the LA will anyway say that start date is expected to be 1st January.

Thank you both. You've confirmed what I suspected but appreciate your replies.
