Hi there,

Are there other families who went to the 8+ exam at King's College. From the info I gathered, the exam was particularly different from other years and quite difficult. I know that the bar is quite high but it seems like this time they used the surprise factor to balance the over tutored kids with the rest.
Also I had the impression that there were many many kids, but I believe that we are not allowed to know how many candidates apply for it. Anyone knowing how many candidates?Confused

Or nny parents out there that went through this same process last year and have any advice?

I don’t know for sure but there were around 8-9 groups of 12 kids on the day, so should be around 100+ applicants at 8+.

Thanks @2minutesplease
I saw a sign of Group 30 Shock...you mean that not all 30 were for 8+?

There were at least 15 groups for 7 plus (numbered from 1-15) who were gathering on the field, and 8+ boys were placed into groups 24-30 (so at least 7), but someone saw 2 more groups elsewhere. Around 12-14 kids in each group.

2minutesplease · 16/11/2021 14:24

So I suspect there were groups nn 16-23 of 7+ kids which I didn’t see, meaning 23 groups of 7+ boys and 7-9 groups of 8+ boys.

Hi 2minutesplease. I had thought that it was groups 1-15 for 7+ and 16-30 for 8+? Do you know that 17-23 we’re definitely for 8+? Thanks

Nani72008 · 16/11/2021 16:25

Sorry I mean 7+?

2minutesplease · 16/11/2021 18:04

Hi Nani,
I don’t know for sure but I think if there were just 1-15 for 7+, 8+ would be 16-23 or so. And 8+ were 23-30, so there are no other groups I could think of rather than 7+ for 16-22… or 7.5+ if they existed ))

Imain · 17/11/2021 10:47

I saw 1-15 for 7+ on the field, 26-30 for 8+ on the playground and then 22 -25 just next to the entrance on Southside. Don't remember if these ones were for 7+ or 8+.
Never got to see 16-21 Groups...

Nani72008 · 17/11/2021 10:56

Thanks Imain! Mystery around 16-21 remains…😊

Imain · 17/11/2021 11:23

No problem Nani!
Mystery about 16-21 indeed!

And not sure also about if 22-25 groups were for 7+ or 8+ Confused...so if anyone can confirm, would be great! Grin

Imain · 18/11/2021 12:05

May I ask in which group was your DS and if his surname is rather at the beginng or end of the alphabet? We may solve the mystery of those Groups!Smile

Avk2 · 24/11/2021 07:11

16-21 were 7+. My son was in this.

Does anyone know if the result letters can be received the same day as they are sent through first class post? I’m quite local to the school so that’s why curious.

notimetothinkstraight · 24/11/2021 09:05

Last year they sent emails with the results (for 7+ at least) so you probably won't need to wait for the post

2minutesplease · 24/11/2021 10:09

I called them last week and they said the results will be sent by post only :((

Suspot · 24/11/2021 10:13

Do they send the results to everyone or only to the successful candidates?

2minutesplease · 24/11/2021 11:41

To everyone.

sxprak2 · 24/11/2021 14:09

So did anyone receive their letter?

Avk2 · 24/11/2021 14:11

Still waiting. Nothing yet.
They said they will be emailing the results end of the week.

Bikeproject · 24/11/2021 15:19

Hi, the official message is that letters of offers (or otherwise) are sent today Wed 24 Nov. However last year they also sent an email on the same day the letters were posted out. It looks like they have not done so again this year.

Suspot · 25/11/2021 11:39

Anyone got their post yet?

Avk2 · 25/11/2021 13:27

Nope. :(
Why can’t they just email? Save paper and give Royal Mail a break, they are anyways so overworked.
