What sort of things do you write in the reading record? (DD is in Y1)
and do you write in everything they've read, not just the school books?

Hi, i work in primary education.
Just write what page they read to, maybe whether child enjoyed it or struggled with a particular word or whether they could answer a question about it :)

You can share any reading too! Any reading is good reading!

Title of book plus a tick. It’s not about what you say - it’s to encourage parents to read with their child regularly.

NellieBertram · 07/11/2021 22:23

Usually just title, page number & my initials.
Sometimes I mix it up with a "book finished" or "good reading".

Iamsodone · 07/11/2021 22:39

In our school the teachers have stopped writing in it under school policy (they have basically stopped marking the homework, most don’t even bother reading it)
So I have stopped writing anything in it 🙁😞
It doesn’t mean I don’t read with my child every night!

Title, what pages were read, and usually a brief comment such as “well read”, “needed help with a few words” or “found this book challenging”. DH only ever writes the title and pages!

My Year 3s school ask for a description so anything they're struggling with plus page number and book title.

I only include the books she brings home but I know others include all the books they read.
