Edge Grove, York House, St Margaret?

Hi all,
we are relocating to the Watford area and are looking for schools for DS aged 8. He'd be going into year 4. He loves the outdoors and would thrive in a school with a holistic approach rather than purely hardcore academic. Any input on these three schools would be appreciated!

Hi Cosmopolisa, sorry you haven’t had any responses - unfortunately I don’t have any first hand knowledge of these schools but hopefully someone else can give better advice following a bump. First thing though - do you know where you’ll be living? Those schools are quite spread out geographically so maybe where you are likely to be living will help narrow it down. St Margaret’s has only recently started taking boys so I’m not sure what the numbers are now boys:girls. Edge Grove has the reputation of being what you are after ie not hardcore academic, good all round and sporty approach. Good luck!

I would discount St Margaret’s and add in Westbrook Hay instead if it works for location. York House and Edge Grove are what you are looking for. St Margaret’s is going through a transitional period right now with the introduction of boys.

We like St Margaret’s very much - I’d think it ticks your boxes and I wouldn’t discount in the basis that co-ed is a work in progress. They started it in the Junior School (and 6th form) first.

*on the basis

You’d probably want to have Aldenham on your list to look at too.

cosmopolisa · 12/11/2021 07:37

Thanks everyone, this really helps! I will look at Aldenham too.

@cosmopolisaI know this is an old thread, but which school did you end up deciding on in the end? I'm going through the exact same thing with my DS. I cant decide between york house school, edge grove or aldenham. DS is super sporty loves the outdoors and needs a more holistic approach aswell. Any advice or update would be HUGELY appreciated!

Just FYI, edge grove does not offer forest school to the older years as part of the main curriculum. I think there may be some after school clubs re it.

Bexy111, just sent you a pm. Hope it went through.
