Girls prep near Kingston and Surbiton area

Hi everyone!

Is anyone able to help me identify a few potential girls prep schools in the Kingston/Surbiton/New Malden areas? Our little one will start prep in the next couple of years.

Girls, rather than co-ed, ideally. And also ones that have strong destinations for their year 6 leavers e.g. going to Tiffin Girls, LEH, NonSuch etc.

So far I'm aware of:

  • Westbury House (co-ed, seems a bit small)
  • Holy Cross (seems to do really well academically?)
  • LEH (unfortunately 7+ which is awkward, no idea how to plan for that)

Thank you so much

What about surbiton? It gives the option of all through schooling if they feel the child is capable of keeping up?

@scaffoldhell we did look into that one but thought that perhaps Surbiton High prep for girls isn't particularly academic compared to Putney High, Wimbledon High, Holy Cross and Westbury House? But that might be a wrong perception we have from what we have read.

Surbiton high is the least academic of the three you have listed but Wimbledon and Putney are all part of the GDST so owned by the same people. I think you need to put some perspective on it as well - surbiton is still in the top 80 private schools in the country academically and at 11+ last year they had 900 applicants for approx 160 places. For me , if you liked the juniors it would be a no brainer - put her in the juniors and then give yourself the option of a space at 11+ but if you feel it’s not the right one for your DD, she can still try for other schools. Putney and Wimbledon are incredibly hard to get in to. Lastly I wouldn’t think to far ahead at this point. Your DD might be academic or sporty or arty or a great all rounder or completely average - you’re not going to know at this stage, so pick a school you think she will thrive in now.

You should consider Rowan in Claygate, it's the most fantastic Prep school and has excellent leaver destinations.
LEH juniors suits a particular type of dd, you can get a place via a state school primary and a bit of tutoring or Shrewsbury house preprep in Claygate will prepare.
