My DS (8yrs) is doing fine at school according to reports etc but doing English homework at home is challenging. Will obviously discuss with his teacher at upcoming parents meeting but wondered if others have encountered similar.
He doesn't have any overt SEN (sibling has ASD, but pretty sure he doesn't and no indication of dyslexia etc).
It seems more a confidence issue- he gets really anxious doing the homework especially if asked to think of sentences using certain grammar. To be honest his use of grammar and spelling is far better than mine and I got decent GCSE English grades (decades ago before fronted adverbials were invented). I am a little sceptical of how useful the grammar kids are expected to learn is and maybe he is picking up on this? Any suggestions on gentle ways to practice grammar or other suggestions?
