Youngest child about to start school

Hi all

My youngest child is about to start school! First day Is 9/9/21 all day!
I’m looking for suggestions of little family traditions that you have that make the first day special. Also other suggestions for fun family traditions that they can look forward to at the end of the week. I know he’s going to be tired and everyone needs something nice to look forward to at the end of the week!

My ideas for first day so far: letting him have a hot chocolate for breakfast as he really likes it and it’s a treat in our house. So he will feel special.

Share your ideas! Thanks!

Our only tradition is taking a photo against the same door at the start of the school year (so you can watch your child grow if you don't move house).

It's a lovely idea, but mornings before school are hectic and "introducing a new tradition" would not be something I'd want to throw into the mix. Maybe keep that hot chocolate for an end of week treat?

Yes I know. Any ideas for end of the week treats?

I agree about keeping the mornings as low key as possible.

I would turn up to collect from school with a nice snack and a carton of fruit juice, as my DD always needed a snack before the long scooter home. And then have a family movie night at the end of the week - popcorn, something fun to watch, everyone snuggled up on the sofa.

If your child is doing short days to settle in, sometimes unwinding at the park is a good plan, but often they are tired and just want to get home and relax.

So far we do, start and end of each year group photos I plan to put these into a collage when she moves to Year 7 but I also send these to ExH because he never does any school runs.

End of the first day we have a treat food in of DDs choice.

You could do a memory box. Other ideas include a family movie night etc. You could also buy some new toys.
