Primary schools in East Oxford

We will soon be moving to Oxford from abroad. Our son is coming from another school system and has been taught in another language so far, so he'll have catching up to do. We are considering East Oxford Primary and St Mary and John CE Primary. Have you had experience of either school (or others in the area) and would you recommend them? We value the multicultural ethos that both schools seem to share to different degrees, but are also keen for the school to offer a welcoming and academically stimulating environment. Thank you for your feedback!

Hi there. I'm the head at East Oxford Primary (so slightly biased!). I'd always encourage parents to try to visit more than one school they are considering to see how they feel on the ground. That is more difficult from abroad, but we will turn around applications quickly, as do SSMJ I believe, so it may well be worth making your decision when you are here in the UK. Apply directly to the school - the council admissions process can be a lengthy wait. In our favour ... we are around 70% English as a second language, so are very specialised in this. We're definitely welcoming and academically stimulating! Send me an email via the address on the front page of the school website if you'd like specific info. Russell.
