Hi there,
Historically we have been in the catchment for the Raleigh in Horsley except for this year where there was a high number of siblings this year and we would not have got in. We are in Little Bookham (on the Effingham border).
I have DS and DD (17 months apart).
Looking at the scaled scores for reading, maths etc I don't think there is a huge amount between them academically. 5 boys from the Raleigh went to RGS for secondary this year too.
Not sure if anyone else has been in the same situation but would be keen to know how other parents have reviewed these 3 schools against each other, and what would you do in this scenario?
I think the reality is that we will have to lump it and pay the deposit for Lanesborough (assuming we get an offer as we are yet to be assessed of course) so as to ensure that we have at least a back up if the Raleigh doesn't work out.
The only other schools with outstanding are infants and I would rather not have that further transition - as I am already moving both of DC to the main nursery in Horsley in anticipation (although wonder if putting DS into Nursery at Lanesborough would be better . We moved into the area last year.)
As for my daughter, I am keen on Guildford High Junior not least as it would take her straight through to secondary but I know it is competitive. I believe single gender schools are more beneficial for girls than boys - is that the case? From what I have been told - boys tend to be louder and take the "lime light" and distract girls... true?
(I went a co-ed grammar so have no idea!)
