Weybridge Primaries and Catchment

Hi mumsnetters, hoping someone can help. Hubby and I are moving to Weybridge and looking to get into the catchment area for a good state primary for our Dd when the time comes. Any thoughts/recommendations on state primaries in the area? We have read on some previous MN posts that St Charles Borromeo Catholic, Oatlands and Cleves are ones to look at - though that advice is outdated so wanted to check recent thoughts.
We are a Catholic and would like to move to the Portmore Park Road area so hoping St Charles Borromeo might be ok?

We also read that it is v hard to get into unless on the doorstep as it’s oversubscribed but how close to the school is likely close enough?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you fall into category four of the admissions criteria (see here how allocations were done this year)

www.surreycc.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/259305/Elmbridge-Primary-allocation-figures-September-2021-V2.pdf

The Portmore Park road area should be OK - they admitted up to 0.863km this year under cat 4 (catholic children without a sibling at the school, living in the Parish), 0.881 in 2020. You would need to prove your child has been baptised.

Thanks PatriciaHolm! That’s rly useful. With regards to schools, what do you think about St Charles v other state primaries in the area? Is it a good un? Which would/do you prefer? Cheers!

Sorry, I'm in the wrong part of Surrey to help with that I'm afraid! I just know where the data is ;-)

Cleves is a junior school fed by Manby Lodge and Oatlands infants. St James (CofE) and St Charles are right through primaries.

I haven't looked into St Charles as I'm not Catholic but of the remainder, Oatlands has the best rating (but hasn't been inspected for a few years) and is the most sought after. It's very popular. Manby Lodge is recently rebuilt and parents seem very happy with it. And of course as I mentioned, both feed into Cleves which is very well regarded.

St James is the least popular.

Manby Lodge is lovely as is Oatlands but with Oatlands you need to live very close. Manby has a much wider catchment. Cleves is ok, people round here seem to think it makes their children extra-special but I think that's really just because they teach them to be super-competitive to the point of encouraging them to cheat at sports- they're notorious for it across the whole of Elmbridge!

Did you pick a school? I have been looking round. I've been most impressed with Manby so far, which really surprised me, still need to look at Oatlands. Loved St James grounds they were amazing especially for a sporty outdoor child. Interested to find out which school you chose? All my friends say Cleves is the one to aim for and is truly outstanding!
