Coronavirus Themed School Photo

Has anyone else had a bizarre Covid-themed class photo this year?

I know that the fashion has moved away from three rows of benches in the school hall, so I wasn't surprised to see that the picture had been taken in three groups of children against white backgrounds, photoshopped together into one mass (even though that has not been done very well so there are some very strange giant and shrunken children and the photographer has ended up putting the TA in the dead centre but the named class teacher off to one side half-hidden).

BUT. Most of the children have been given "props" to hold - mostly bottles of hand gel, hands face space signs and those disposable blue paper masks. The masks especially look as if they have been out picking up bio-hazard litter without gloves on as none of them (Yr 1) have ever worn these adult-sized masks in school.

Why?!
Is that the thing nationwide this year, or were we just particularly unlucky with the creative choices of our local primary school?

😂 not seen ours yet but yours sound very interesting. I swear to God my kids are airbrushed in theres.

Iamnotthe1 · 07/07/2021 06:44

It'll be the choices of the photography company not the school. But, yes, that seems a weird choice.

It may well be possible they are airbrushed IncessantNameChanger. The company do edit the pictures, swapping faces from other versions of the image, touch ups etc. It's in their interests as they want as many people as possible to buy.

Marmite27 · 07/07/2021 06:49

Definitely not one to buy!

Ours is a traditional line up, but a friends child has the groups of 4/5 set up - no props though. I much prefer the traditional line up, it has to be said.

Whatalottachocca · 07/07/2021 06:52

Our school has the traditional rows of children as that's what our parents prefer but I haven't heard of any school using props. How odd!

Sittinginthesand · 07/07/2021 07:07

That sounds hideous! Our school used to do the small groups photoshopped together, dd (about a head taller than anyone else) ended up the same size as the tinniest person in the class, it looked very odd! They also had them with their arms round each, some with one leg on a chair, some kneeling, arms round each other - generally someone they didn’t like. It looked crap tbh.

kowari · 07/07/2021 07:11

No way would I buy that, I don't even like those posed small group photos with normal props like books.

DiscoFlamingo · 07/07/2021 16:04

We had an issue a few years ago where the company (the groups on white background photoshopped together style one) made the year 6 class pose with props. They put boys with footballs and pretend fighting while girls had musical instruments or posed like teenagers on a night out.
The head complained and made the company redo it- prop free!!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 07/07/2021 16:07

I am all for a little creative fun but that sounds dreadful. :o

beela · 07/07/2021 16:10

That sounds horrific!

Ours were individual pictures with the kids doing cutesy poses, all stuck together at angles. Also awful.

Lockdownbear · 07/07/2021 16:12

Ours was not so much covid themed but how they went to school during covid, ie polo's and no school ties.

The PTA paid for them and wanted them to be a record of the time rather than the kids dressed in the formal uniform.

Lockdownbear · 07/07/2021 16:12

Oh and they were taken outside rather than breaking the rules and having the photographer inside.

GreyhoundG1rl · 07/07/2021 16:14

That sounds bloody awful!! I hope enough of you refuse to buy it so they have to do it again.

Yellowmellow2 · 07/07/2021 19:55

How bizarre?! Just inappropriate really. I certainly wouldn’t buy one.

55378OO8 · 07/07/2021 19:59

Ours are weirdly photo shopped and they made the (slim) class teacher look obese. It was taken on PE day and, because they forgot to tell anyone it was school photo day, the children are in a random assortment of sportswear.. Thankfully no props though.

55378OO8 · 07/07/2021 19:59

I bought one because I thought it was hilarious.

Meredusoleil · 07/07/2021 20:09

My daughters' infant school do the traditional ones in rows via Tempest. The junior school however, do the cut and paste in groups on a white background thing via Fraser and I have never and will never buy them! No props thankfully, but yes to arms round each other and other awfully unnatural poses.

Really wish the juniors wild just stick to Tempest like the infants. Although the individual photos Fraser take are normally quite good, so we buy those.

RaraRachael · 07/07/2021 20:17

I wouldn't buy anything to remind me of this awful period of time. Our school went through a phase of those photos with props - the parents hated them, hardly any were sold and we've gone back to 3 rows in the hall or outside.

HappyDaysToCome · 07/07/2021 20:23

I think that’s inappropriate to have covid themed props, it’s not a joke.

Ours had the posed small groups of children photoshopped together. With children being made to put their arms round each other etc. I know they’re all in a bubble, but my DC wouldn’t naturally be that close to other children (they aren’t the type to hug their friends). I thought that was inappropriate too. One of the children in the photo tested positive for covid the next day.

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 07/07/2021 20:26

DDs school still does 3 benches but they do them on the school field.
This is bizarre.

Yellowmellow2 · 07/07/2021 20:50

@55378OO8

I bought one because I thought it was hilarious.
🤣
Bobholll · 08/07/2021 07:21

This is weird 😂😂 I suppose it’s a moment in history you’ll look back on .. might be a funny photo for the 18th I suppose!

imip · 08/07/2021 07:24

My y6 did these - only the y6. When it came to buy them that image wasn’t for sale. I assume the school brought it as they hang up the pictures of every y6 class in the school I wouldn’t buy it personally, but I think hanging in the school is a nice idea.

Eatenpig · 08/07/2021 23:28

Jeez that's sounds hideous
