Eldest Manky went into YR1 this year. He had attended reception in the school, so I was comfortable with the move up, and thought he would be fine. TBH it came as a shock to both of us the way the format changed. There was a lot more expected of him after the first couple of days settling in. He really needed those days. I think if he had missed the first couple of days then come back to school he would have struggled. A lot of stuff changes in YR1. It also surprised me that although these were the same kids he had been with in reception, the dynamics totally changed once the surroundings did. He has a different circle of friends now, and a lot of this was established in the first few days as the kids were sorted into different groups and tables. I haven't taken him out of school for a holiday yet, but I think If I did I would look to do it at the end of the school year, not the start. It's only my opinion, but I hope it helps!
