Schools in Nottingham (Mapperly Park)

Hi all,
We are moving to Nottingham to be closer to family.. Very excited but nervous at the same time.
We've put in an offer for a house in Mapperly park.
We have a 19 month old and I want to ideally get some information on schools from the locals.
The closest schools to the house are mainly indépendant - Hollygirt / Nottingham high / St Joseph's. The state closest is Huntingdon Academy.
Any experience in any of these schools? I don't think I will send him to Nottingham high as the fees are high. But can afford Hollygirt and St Joseph's. We are not just looking for independent schools, if the state school is good, I'm open to it.
Thanks in advance Smile

We love living in Mapperley Park. Such a lovely neighbourhood and close to vibrant Sherwood down the road.

It probably depends which side of Mapperley Park your house is in? Is it closer to the Mansfield Road side or Woodborough Road side? Carrington Primary School rated ‘Good’ in 2018 is just off Mansfield Road and quite a few MP kids go there. Huntington Academy is located in St Ann’s which historically has been a more deprived area, but I think the school was rated Outstanding. There is also Haydn Road Primary School in Sherwood, but it’s very oversubscribed and you may be out of the catchment. There are several primary schools in Mapperley as well. All school applications are through Nottingham City Council. I don’t have any direct experience as my children go to one of the independents you mention. People really like Hollygirt especially in the early years. They start at pre-prep.

If you’re Catholic there is also St Augustine’s off Mapperley Road. Walter Hall’s Primary and Junior is close by too.

Most people in mapperly park use the independents. It’s the same if you live in The Park.

Huntingdon is an excellent school - I know the deputy well and they work incredibly hard for their children - but it predominantly serves one of the most deprived areas (St Ann’s). I work at a school around the corner with the same catchment, and am part of the same academy chain.

If you can afford to go private I probably would.

Thank you all for your replies. Sorry I must have turned the notifications off so only seen your response now.
We have missed out on the Mapperly Park house now! 😕
This house hunt is making us mad!
We nearly bought a house in Woodthorpe but that didn't work out well too.
We are now interested in Kimberley area (a bit north). Do you know the area? And the schools?
Thanks a lot Smile
