If my kid has just started school, what year is he in?

Is it some thig to do with key stage or some thing?
or reception?
or first year infants?

reception probably - is the end of foundation stage.

Y1 and Y2 = Key stage 1
Y3-6 = KS2

Y7-9 = KS3
Y10-11 = KS4

Exactly PandaG. First Year Infants is what they used to call reception in the "old days" and some folk still refer to it as such.

In Scotland, reception is primary 1!

Foundation stage = age 3-5 = Nursery and Reception

key stage 1 = age 5-7 = Year 1, Year 2

key stage 2 - age 7 - 11 = years, 3, 4, 5 and 6

The first year of proper - compulsory school is reception.

it took me about 4 years to work this out
