Harpenden Academy or St Nicholas

We are moving to a house in the avenues in Harpenden and our DS needs a primary school place for Reception. Our nearest would be St Nicholas and it seems like a lovely little school. I was pleased with short walk from the house and the prospect of little friends in nearby streets. But then I also visited Harpenden Academy and absolutely loved the Reception teacher. I got a such a happy vibe from the school. It’s a few minutes more of a walk away which I don’t mind, but worry all his pals will live far away from us. I suspect my son is going to be academic but will need help with social and emotional areas of learning. I’m much more concerned about him being cared for and happy than SATS results. Any experience, thoughts or views on which school would be our best option? Big big thanks!

Both good schools so go with where you think would suit your son best. Low birth rate at the moment so I think you will have your choice of secondary by the time your son gets there, whether you’re in HA or not (if you wanted SJL). They’re both constrained on outdoor space tho use rothamsted park.
