Hello, I already posted this in chat- but was advised to post it here too, as this is where all the experts hang out. Please let me know your experiences/ advise even if it is negative.

We only applied for 1 junior school for our child. The same one their sibling attends. We were offered it. My husband did all the application. He assumed as we only put one choice it would be automatically assumed we’d accepted. This is obviously not the case and he missed an email yesterday saying please remember to accept your school place. Obviously we’ll get in tough choices with them on Tuesday and plead our case- but now I’m terrified my child has lost their place at the school. Has anyone else been in this situation? How quick do they re allocate places?
Yes, I know I should have checked myself....but I thought he had it all under control. Have been busy with newborn.
Am beside myself with worry.
Please, any advice from anyone knowledgable?

God I could never leave my husband to do anything like this. He doesn't even know which secondary schools I applied to. Although it's pretty obvious as they are all close.

RevolvingPivot · 01/05/2021 09:02

Hope you get it sorted.

BittyBatHats · 01/05/2021 09:02

Oh dear. That's a heap of stress you didn't need. So long as you aren't in London or somewhere else extremely over subscribed you might just be ok. Hang in there OP.

Honestly you’ll be fine. There is no way the school admin team will have already notified the council on Friday afternoon. Especially if you have siblings in the school and highly likely to be taking up the place. Any good admin team always puts a deadline date several days before the info is actually needed to allow for chasing people.

Call Tuesday am and you will be fine.

KG1000 · 01/05/2021 09:20

I think you should be fine, given the deadline was only yesterday.

I almost didn't confirm my son's place in a massively oversubscribed high school, because I didn't realise I had to. The offer email came from my local authority, and specifically said we didn't need to confirm, but the school is in neighbouring LA, who apparently do require confirmation. Thankfully, a friend from that LA sent me a screen shot of her offer instructing her to confirm. As if applying for schools wasn't stressful enough!

I work in a school, our secretary was chasing this yesterday. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t phone you to check as a sibling already attends. Phone first thing Tuesday and try not to worry.

the people that you need to be talking to are the LA. They are the people who control the admissions at this time and they remove the places and reallocate as necessary. The school might be chasing but it is the LA that do all the allocating of places.
Oh there is one other person you need to be talking to and that is your husband about how stupid he has been!

prh47bridge · 01/05/2021 17:52

It has become clear from the OP's other thread that she should be fine. The LA has not yet withdrawn the place. She is assuming they will do so as the offer has not yet been accepted. However, as I have explained on that thread, once the initial deadline has passed the admission authority must contact any parents who have not yet accepted offers and give them a further chance to respond. They cannot withdraw places until that has happened.

EvilPea · 01/05/2021 18:09

I did this .... although without the reminding emails.
It was fine.

vipondkatie · 02/05/2021 18:23

I have made the same error and worried sick. I did try to do it earlier in the week but the site crashed and it slipped my mind, until I went to do it today and realised the deadline was midnight on Friday. Now have a weekend of feeling sick until can speak to LA on Tuesday morning. I’ve emailed just so there is a record is me trying to get in touch as soon as I realised.
