Private primary & preschool in Cambridgeshire

Hi!
I am looking for a private preschool & primary in Cambridgeshire. We live in Huntingdon and quite new in this area, so really need your advice. I was thinking about either Kimbolton ( I read that their secondary is not so good ;() or Kings Ely.I also found few schools near Cambridge (St Mary, Perse). Just want to hear your thoughts and probably you have some insights or your DD or DS are currently attending any of these schools. Or maybe you can suggest another school?

Thank you! Smile

I know very little about schools in Huntingdon. But I think you’d be absolutely insane to travel from Huntingdon to Cambridge (Perse, St Marys etc) twice a day for preschool. The odd secondary age pupil might do it independently on the train, but I think it’s crazy to do it for a preschooler - Cambridge/Cambridgeshire traffic and parking is appalling, you’ll spend hours on a train or driving (and potentially not getting close to school in a car so walking too) and your child will have no local friends. Try driving it one day at school times and see if you still want to do it, day in and day out, for a decade!

You will really struggle trying to commute into Cambridge from Huntingdon in the mornings. Madness for anything below Secondary age.

I agree that it will be really difficult to go to Cambridge for preschool. I don't know much about the private sector but there is a school in Somersham

which you could look into. Good luck!

you can't commute by train from Huntingdon anyway. Guided bus maybe. But wouldn't be worth it.

the schools you mention aren't just 'near Cambridge' - they are smack dab in the middle of the most congested part of the city.

Unless you are already commuting in every day for work, in which case there are the ones you mentioned as well as ones like Sancton wood. But you don't want to commute just for school.

Kimbolton direction might be easier

We live just outside Cambridge and travel in to one of the schools you mention ... a seven minute off peak drive to school can take over an hour in the morning rush hour sometimes, if the perfect storm of roadworks and M11/A14 accident occurs. From Huntingdon it would be a nightmare, trust me.

Is Kimbolton highly selective school?
