Help me choose a school in Ashby, Leicestershire

Hi, I am in the process of choosing a primary school for my child who will be starting later this year in Year 1.

Have narrowed school choices down to Ashby Hill Top, Willesly and Ashby COFE.

I am new to the area so any advice is welcome such as extra curricular activities available at the school or nightmare parking during school runs etc

Thanks

Do all of them have a space in year 1? It might narrow down your options if not. They’re all great schools. I have friends with children in all of them and they are all happy with their choice.

Agree with welshweasel that your first job is to find out which schools have vacancies as all talk of which school is best may be irrelevant if none of them have a space.

Are you looking for a space from September? If so you won't be able to apply at the moment as any offer of a place will be expected to be taken up within a couple of weeks - they won't keep a place for you beyond that date.

Also bears in mind that a school with a vacancy now, may not still have a vacancy when you come to apply.

Thank you, I was not aware that's how it worked. Yes I'm looking at a September start.

When would be a good time to apply to get a realistic overview of what places are available?

There is no harm speaking to schools now to find out if any of them have space, then you know where you stand.

Speak to the local authorities- they usually have a date mid to late June where they accept applications for a September start.

Thank you both
