Not sure about Aldenham prep or Royal Masonic

as the title suggests i am not sure where to send my daughter to. She will be 3 in May. I got a great feeling from Royal Masonic and the headmistress of the nursery was amazing whereas at Aldenham there really wasn’t any warmth from any of the teachers which is concerning. But i want to know which school is best? my daughter is middle of the field so don’t want anything too pushy but more caring. She also doesn’t talk a lot but knows everything going on and is smart in other ways.

Aldenham is very boy heavy, always has been. I would chose RMS purely for that reason.

Both schools are great for the sort of child you describe your daughter to be.

Have you considered a prep school instead though or only looking for all through schools? Edge Grove and York House would also fit the bill. Better coed split, wide range of abilities and leaver destinations to match.

Aldenham prep is the most incredible school. The prep is not boy heavy, it's almost exactly 50/50. It's very warm and nuturing and I would struggle to fault it.

we decided on royal masonic just because of the warmth from the headmistress and teachers- towards us and our daughter. We found the teachers at Aldenham not so engaged and a bit cold which is not what you want with young children

We are looking for a school for our son, aged 4, and including Mill Hill School, Aldenham, Habs, Highgate, UCS, and local prep schools (Manor Lodge, Edge Grove, Radlett Prep, Goodwyn).
We want to send him to a school that stretches children of all sporting and academic abilities and also has a sibling policy.
All very confusing- we’d appreciate the thoughts of parents with kids at any of these schools.
Thank you x

I'd be very wary of the Royal Masonic.

Zodlebud · 21/04/2021 16:46

That’s a very loaded statement @Maggiesfarm. RMS is a great school for a wide range of girls. It’s not an academic hothouse, nor does it pretend to be.

It might be useful to be more specific?

Maggiesfarm · 21/04/2021 16:49

It's the masonic connection I would object to.

Zodlebud · 21/04/2021 22:08

The name refers mainly to the history of the school only these days........

Lots of schools refer to their founders. It’s not a continuing allegiance.
