We are almost sorted on the b and d thing but he always writes "q" instead of "p". We are both getting frustrated!

Does your school do jolly phonics?

I our house a "p" has a bump that pushes in front of the line, whilst a "q" has the bump sitting quietly behind.

frazzled - the school does do phonics but not Jolly Phonics per se.

west3 - thanks - will try and explain that one.

My advice? Forget about it for a couple of months. You'll find that the problem sorts itself out miraculously!

Thanks seeker - sounds like sound advice! His writing is not great anyway and the teacher gave him extra writing practice which we are not doing as I can't see that him writing lines of the letters as fast as he possibly can to actually get finished is helping anyone! I have bought the Write from the Start programme that was recommened on here but we have't have much chance to do it yet.

My own gut feel is that he will suddenly get it. He is an August birthday - enough said.
