Notting hill Prep vs Bassett House

Hi,

We are struggling to chose between Bassett House and Notting Hill Prep for our DS. Our preference for a school is to have a nice , friendly atmosphere coupled with a more organized approach when it comes to senior school admissions later in the cycle. Any advice from parents with kids at either schools would be such a great help. Thank you for reading this!

Hi @mammabare
I understand that Bassett is getting a new Head.... not sure if that affects your decision?

Nataly21 · 02/03/2021 16:45

Isn't NHP the one where a group of parents are basically decision makers on all school related policies? Its either NHP or Norland Place.

NHPDH · 03/03/2021 22:17

My DC went to NHP and I think it’s a great school. The new head (from Glendower) has organised the exit support better in my opinion and even as a non selective school, some children get into the most academic schools in London.

I think BH sends a smaller proportion to those aspirational schools - whether that’s indicative of their teaching or not I honestly can’t say. The few parents I know at BH said the 11+ process wasn’t well organised. But like all posts on here, that could just be the view of that handful of parents and others may have found it excellent!

Thanks for the replies! So far it seems that NHP might be safer bet amongst the two options.

Have been researching the same decision for Sept 22 entry for my little girl!! Attended an online open event with bassett last week and I'm pretty sure one of the royals was on there too... This certainly says good things about the school from my point of view, they could send their children anywhere they wanted presumably. I'm leaning towards Bassett as it's small and seems very personalised to each school. Apparently they also had big investment in new facilities last year too... I'll be going in for a tour asap :) They also showed a video from the new Head who came from Thomas's (also a royal fave, wonder if it's a coincidence...) and she seems excellent. Hope this helps anyone reading - did you go for NHP?

@eliana12345
Royals don't produce results. They have big names and that gets them anywhere regardless of their incredibly miserable academic records. But if that's your priority, then that's what it is. Good luck.

Some very interesting revelations about the impact of Dukes owning Orchard House on another recent thread. I would also be aware that Dukes seem to be using a plethora of fake accounts to sing their school's praises on here. Good luck OP.

Joy93notme · 12/04/2021 17:33

Dukes, of course, own Bassett House.

eliana12345 · 12/04/2021 18:39

@Joy93notme
Do you have any experience with them/their schools??
Dukes lady was on the bassett open day the other day. Would be interested to know how the reality compares to what she said their role is!

And what did she say her role was, apart from the marketing role she was having that day?

Hey! I’m just curious what decision you made here? I’m currently trying to decide between NHP and Bassett (also kind of considering Chepstow)
My 4yo daughter comes from a more creative and daydreamy family, but I’m trying to give her a more structured, academic and regimented schooling experience compared to the one I had. I thought NHP would be great for this, but then I like that Bassett is so small and individualised. I need to decide very soon eek ! She’d be joining September 2025

I am new to the notting hill area and starting the search on a nursery / prep school for my DD and DS. I know this thread is old but I wondered if anyone can provide insight into NHP, Bassett House and Chepstow House.

Thanks so much

Hello

I appreciate that this is an old post now, but wanted to see which you opted for? We wanted to arrange a visit to Bassett House last summer but had no response. I have also heard that the new head is already moving on under a bit of a cloud; therefore, we are leaning towards NHP. If you have any experiences to share, I would love to hear them.

Thanks

Hello there

I’ve just commented on the post above but have seen yours is more recent. Which did you end up going for in the end? As mentioned in my reply to mammabare, we are leaning towards NHP due to grumblings we have heard about the Bassett House head, but quite keen to hear about other’s experiences of NHP etc.

Thanks so much :-)
